• AI-enabled Citizen Participation in University-driven Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Safeguarding

AISTER is an Erasmus+ project enhancing the capacity of Higher Education using Artificial Intelligence and citizen science to protect and safeguard Ukrainian cultural heritage. Bringing together partners from computer science, cultural heritage, and the social sciences, AISTER co-develops interdisciplinary teaching methods, ethical frameworks, and participatory tools. By equipping students and citizens with digital and civic skills, the project promotes society-centred, AI-driven approaches to protecting endangered heritage and strengthening cultural resilience.

Through expert roundtables, educational workshops, and practical initiatives—such as a hackathon on AI for 3D cultural heritage—AISTER empowers students and citizens to contribute meaningfully to the safeguarding of endangered heritage, with a special focus on Ukraine. This presentation will explore AISTER’s methodology, partnerships, and its potential as a replicable model for cultural resilience in times of crisis.
